“Praise the Lord! In the order of the Holy Spirit, we have to ‘come short in no gift’”. – Smith Wigglesworth
1 Corinthians 1:7 so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ,
For Smith Wigglesworth, the Christian life was divided into two realms: the natural and the supernatural. When he references the “order of the Holy Spirit,” he is talking about moving out of human limitations and entering into the Spirit’s domain:
An Expectation and Requirement: Wigglesworth believed that walking in the Holy Spirit wasn’t optional or passive. To him, the “order” is a divine mandate or rule of thumb for a Spirit-filled believer. If you claim to live under the Holy Spirit’s government, your absolute baseline standard is to “come short in no gift.”
The Atmosphere of the Miraculous: In the very next sentences of that sermon, he states that Jesus came so that He “might be made so manifest in us that the world will see Him” and that His servants must be “flames.” Therefore, the “order” is the supernatural economy where spiritual gifts (like healing, prophecy, or tongues) are meant to flow continuously without lack.
If you rewrite his thought in modern language, Wigglesworth is saying:
“Under the rule and standard of the Holy Spirit, we are required to operate in full spiritual power, lacking absolutely nothing.” – Smith Wigglesworth
